Tuuletar: tules, maas, vedes, taivaal

Released in June 2016 by the Finnish band Tuuletar, Tules Maas Vedes Taivaal is an award-winning debut album that won the Best Ethno Album award at the 2017 Emma Gala. This unique work, representing "vocal folk hop," is created entirely with human voices and beatboxing, combining Finnish folklore with modern urban rhythms. The album's eight tracks – Alku, Kohma, Loimu, Odotan, Tuu kerää, Valkia, Ei leijuta, and Soua – take the listener on a journey through the forces of nature and the elements. In particular, the opening track Alku received significant international attention when it was licensed for the worldwide trailer of the wildly popular fantasy series Game of Thrones. Enclosed within the covers of the physical CD, the entity is strongly based on Finnish mythology, and its hypnotic arrangements vary from mystical, spell-like atmospheres to energetic, hip-hop-influenced rhythms.
