Steven Isserlis plays The Marquis de Corberon Cello (10 x CD BOX-SET)

Steven Isserlis plays The Marquis de Corberon is a substantial 10-CD anniversary box set to be released by the Hyperion record label on October 23, 2026, to honor the 300-year history of the exceptional Marquis de Corberon Stradivarius cello. This instrument, built in 1726, has been the British cellist's trusted instrument for decades, and the collection brings together his most significant recordings made with this specific cello. The compilation broadly covers the history of classical music, ranging from J. S. Bach's viola da gamba sonatas, Domenico Scarlatti's sonatas, and Haydn's and C. P. E. Bach's cello concertos to the great cello sonatas of Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, and Mendelssohn. Later eras are represented by works such as Max Bruch's delicate Kol Nidrei and John Tavener's poignant contemporary pieces, including Mahámátar and Popule Meus, making this milestone in the world-renowned virtuoso's career a profound look into both the unique sound of a treasured instrument and Isserlis's acclaimed interpretive artistry.
