Reginald Mobley, Brandon Acker, Douglas Balliett - Solitude CD

Reginald Mobley’s album Solitude (2025) is an intimate, genre-bending work that weaves together 17th-century English Baroque music and contemporary compositions. Recorded with lutenist Brandon Acker and bassist Douglas Balliett, the album is built around melancholic classics by Henry Purcell and John Dowland (such as “O Solitude”), but also features new music by Jonathan Woody and 19th-century arrangements by Justin Holland. Combining Mobley’s pure countertenor vocals with sparse string and plucked-string accompaniment, the work deliberately blurs the boundaries between early music, folk ballads, and jazz-influenced expression, creating a timeless, wistful, and comforting soundscape.
