Baïka is a musically colorful journey to the East by Serbian-French violin virtuoso Nemanja Radulovi. It is not a traditional classical album, but a mix of art music, folklore and storytelling.
The album's title is Serbian and means "fairy tale". Radulovi wanted to create a whole that takes the listener on a journey along the Silk Road from the Balkans to Armenia and Persia.
Double Sens band: Radulovi plays together with a band he founded, consisting of his French and Serbian friends. Their playing together is exceptionally close and energetic.
Virtuosity: Radulovi is known as the "rock star of classical music". His playing style is passionate, and the album is full of strong emotion and technical mastery.
Encounter of cultures: The album combines Western classical training with Eastern European soulfulness in a way that has made it one of Radulovi's most popular releases.
Šeherazade (Rimski-Korsakov): The heart of the album. Originally composed for a large orchestra, this piece has been arranged here for Radulovi's own Double Sens ensemble. It is a more intimate, electric and almost chamber music version of the well-known classic.
Violin Concerto (Khatsaturyan): Radulovi interprets the concerto by Armenian Aram Khachaturyan with exceptional energy. Also included is the famous and fast-paced Sapele Dance.
Savcho 3 (Aleksandar Sedlar): A work by contemporary composer Sedlar, inspired by Balkan folk music. It showcases Radulovi's ability to play extremely fast and rhythmically.
