In autumn 2021, the Radio Symphony Orchestra, together with its new chief conductor Nicholas Collon, organized the Thomas Adès Festival in Helsinki, dedicated to the music of the world-famous composer and works by other composers selected and conducted by Thomas Adès (b. 1971). One of the highlights of the festival program was the world premiere of Märchentänzen in a version composed for violin and orchestra, performed by violinist Pekka Kuusisto, Adès's long-time artistic partner. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra's new album features four new and exciting orchestral works composed by the composer between 2016 and 2021, which have been released as world premiere recordings. In addition to Märchentänzen, the album includes Adès's orchestral work Hotel Suite from Powder Her Face, an adaptation of the opera music that brought Adès widespread fame in the mid-1990s. Originally composed for Steven Isserlis, the orchestral version of Lieux retrouvés could be described as a cello concerto composed in the spirit of Marcel Proust. The orchestral work Dawn was written for the 2020 London Proms festival for a "remote orchestra" due to the coronavirus pandemic. Adès' Dawn is timeless music that floats in its own serene universe of beauty.
