Kronos Quartet: Glorious Mahalia (LP-vinyl)

Released in 2026 by the Kronos Quartet, Glorious Mahalia is a tribute album to gospel singer and civil rights activist Mahalia Jackson, weaving together musical excellence and the history of the American civil rights movement. The album consists of 11 tracks in which contemporary string quartet music meets Jackson's traditional gospel melodies and historical archival recordings, such as interviews by radio broadcaster Studs Terkel and memoirs by Martin Luther King Jr.'s speechwriter Clarence B. Jones. The album particularly commemorates a historic moment from the 1963 March on Washington, when Jackson shouted to King during his speech the famous words "Tell them about the dream, Martin!", and it serves as a powerful, experimental commentary on the role of artists in social justice.
