Klezmer has been played since the early Middle Ages, and it originated in America in the 1880s and early 1900s. Jews who immigrated to America brought it with them. In the New World, klezmer was strongly influenced by early jazz and swing, and the style continues to evolve. Klezmer's distinctive sound combines artistic virtuosity with numerous tempo changes, irregular rhythms, dissonance, and elements of improvisation. Eclectic and diverse, klezmer is unique, easily recognizable, and widely appreciated. KLEZTORY is a rich mosaic of cultures (Russian, Canadian, Quebecois, and Moldovan), musical training (academic and self-taught), and musical tastes (classical, contemporary, jazz, blues, country, and folk). Combining their talents, these musicians perform with the emotion and virtuosity that is the true spirit of klezmer. Momentum is Kleztory's sixth album and celebrates the band's 20th anniversary. Combining traditional songs and new compositions, the album juxtaposes the music the band has been playing since its inception with completely new material.
