This ensemble — soprano Renata Tebaldi, conductor Herbert von Karajan, and the Vienna Philharmonic — has recorded two of Giuseppe Verdi's most significant operas, which are cornerstones of recording history.
This disc features the first of these, Aida, one of the most famous operas of all time.
Soloists: Renata Tebaldi (Aida), Carlo Bergonzi (Radamès), Giulietta Simionato (Amneris), Cornell MacNeil (Amonasro).
Recorded in 1959. This "spectacular" recording is known for Karajan's majestic touch and Tebaldi's lyrical yet powerful interpretation.
