Orchid Classics presents the second of two releases featuring the winners of the 2019 Carl Nielsen Competition. Bachtrack praised French flutist Joséphine Olech for the "subtle elegance" and "luminous joy" of her performances. She trained at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Academy and is currently principal flute with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. For her first concerto recording with the Odense Symphony Orchestra and conductor Anna Skryleva, Joséphine Olech chose three 20th-century works that reflect countries with which she has a personal connection as an artist: Nielsen's beautiful and witty flute concerto (1926), Dutch composer Theodor Verhey's sparkling Flute Concerto No. 1 (1902), and Jean Françaix's dazzling flute concerto from 1966.
