Fabio Luisi, Philharmonia Zürich - Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade

This 2016 live recording by conductor Fabio Luisi and the Philharmonia Zürich offers an exceptionally colorful and transparent interpretation of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, in which the Zurich Opera House orchestra shines in all its glory. Luis’s interpretation strikes a refined balance between the work’s massive drama and its delicate, narrative details, allowing the orchestra’s various sections—particularly the woodwinds and concertmaster Bartlomiej Niziol’s solo violin—to stand out magnificently. Released on the Zurich Opera House’s own Philharmonia Records —has garnered widespread praise from classical music critics, who have lauded its acoustic clarity, lyrical expression, and ability to bring the Eastern fairy tales of One Thousand and One Nights to life without unnecessary haste or exaggeration.
