Chet Baker's (1929-1988) complementary talents as both a trumpeter and singer are well known today, and Will MacFarland's original liner notes for the 10-inch LP Chet Baker Sings, in which he compared Chet to Louis Armstrong, still seem quite apt. Both his trumpet and his voice seem to be extensions of the same musical personality, and once you get to know both sides of Baker, you expect to hear them both. This album was originally released in 1954 as a 10-inch long-playing record containing eight tracks. Its success soon led to its re-release as a 12-inch LP, with additional material from later sessions in 1956. On all of these records, Cheti is accompanied on piano by Russ Freeman, who was a regular member of the trumpeter's band at the time. This edition features all the tracks from the 12-inch LP, plus one bonus track from the same era.
