Alan Riding&Leslie Dunton-Downer: Ooppera (BOOK, Finnish)

Opera is a visual and accessible general guide written by Alan Riding and Leslie Dunton-Downer, which compiles over 400 years of opera history into a single volume as a richly illustrated book true to the style of DK publishing. The Finnish translation of the work was published in 2008 by WSOY, translated by Saana Ala-Antti and Mirja Rytökäri. Chronologically structured, this handbook traces the development of opera from the Renaissance and Baroque eras to contemporary opera, introduces key composers, and provides concise plot summaries and musical analyses for over 160 major operas. Additionally, the book looks inside the world's most famous opera houses, features legendary singers, and clarifies the specialized terminology of the genre, making this translated edition a perfect and practical reference book for both Finnish beginners and experienced opera lovers alike.
