Taborn, Craig - Shadow Plays

Craig Taborn's album Avenging Angel was widely praised for the fresh ideas it brought to solo piano. The New York Times wrote: "It reflects Mr. Taborn's galactically broad interests, as well as his versatile technique," while The Guardian praised Craig's "genius (there is no other word for it) and his "world of whispered, spacious figures, ringing overtones, evaporating echoes, and glowing contrapuntal waterfalls." Over the past decade, Taborn has continued to refine and develop his approach, reaching new heights in Shadow Plays, a magnificent live concert from Vienna's Konzerthaus. In this entirely improvised concert, recorded in March 2020, Craig explores sounds and silences, swirling colors, densities, and shapes, creating new music in the moment with both poetic imagination and an iron grip on his spontaneously generated material.
