Franz Xaver Richter's Sonata da camera shares many of the musical characteristics that make his symphonies so distinctive: ingenious writing for the sections, rich, expressive harmonies, and delightfully unexpected melodic twists. These important works, published in Nuremberg in 1764, are firmly rooted in the Baroque trio sonata tradition, but contain subtle echoes of the new musical language developed by his colleagues in the famous Mannheim court orchestra. Also available are Richter's Grandes Symphonies symphonies Nos. 1-6 (8.557818), described as "charmingly urbane and sophisticated" (MusicWeb International), and Nos. 7-12 (8.570597), described as "sparkling performances" (Fanfare).
