Soloists:

Orchestra, choir:
Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Carlo Felice, Children's Choir of the Teatro Carlo Felice
Conductor:
Marco Boemi
Director:
Renzo Giacchieri
This production comes from the historic Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Italy, and features opera power couple Daniela Dessì and Fabio Armiliato as the lovers Tosca and Cavaradossi. The tragic story of doomed love, intertwined with the timeless themes of jealousy, lust, and intrigue, has secured Tosca a place among the ten most popular operas. Staging Tosca in a credible and timeless way is both simple and difficult. The three main roles – the ruthless police chief Vitellio Scarpia and the painter Mario Cavaradossi, who form the backdrop for Floria Tosca, the "famous singer" (both on stage and in real life)—require star performers with the necessary skills, but who must also demonstrate a certain enjoyment of performing—something that has never been a given in musical theater. It should be made clear from the outset that the 2010 production at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, based on Adolf Hohenstein's original set design for the premiere, meets all these requirements. Probably the best current soprano-tenor combination (also a married couple in real life) – Daniela Dessì and Fabio Armiliato – are given worthy opposition in the form of Claudio Sgura, who plays Baron Scarpia.
