The Elegance series is a collection of breathtaking ballet performances from internationally renowned theaters, featuring our beloved dance stars. The series presents works by today's greatest choreographers and, of course, the legacy of the legendary Marius Petipa. In 1999, exactly 107 years to the day after the first performance in St. Petersburg, Patrice Bart's choreography of Tchaikovsky's globally successful The Nutcracker premiered at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Bart placed a prologue at the beginning of the ballet, in which Marie is kidnapped as a child and everything is placed in a modern context.
