Palmgren, Selim - Complete Piano Works, Vol. 2 - Somero, Jouni

Buson's student Selim Palmgren was one of the most important Finnish composers and pianists of his time, and his works intended for pedagogical use, such as Kevätauerta, remain popular. This program reveals Palmgren's versatility to the fullest. The Deux-contrasts depict the contrasting poles of melancholy and joyful playfulness, and the dreamy Preludi-Nocturne is a jazz-tinged reminder of 1920s America. Palmgren's 24 preludes present a wide range of technical and stylistic challenges and also include one of the first examples of impressionism in Nordic piano literature.
