Oscar Strasnoy: Luther an oratorio

In honor of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017, internationally renowned contemporary composer Oscar Strasnoy and one of Germany's most prominent writers, Christoph Hein, were commissioned to create an oratorio dedicated to the life and work of Martin Luther. This is the first time Luther has been the focus of such a large-scale work, composed for orchestra, choir, and soloists. The work is a critical examination of Luther's personality, in which the roles of the soloists are caricatured through the use of voice pitch.
