Micus, Stephan - Winter's End

Stephan Micus is a one-man sound universe. He collects and studies instruments from around the world and uses them to create his own musical journeys. This is his 24th solo album for ECM, created in his studio and featuring numerous recordings and overdubs. The twelve tracks on Winter's End feature two new instruments, the Mozambican chikulo and the Central African-style string drum. Also featured are the kalimba (thumb piano), sinding (Gambian harp), Egyptian nay flute, Japanese nohkan flute, Balinese suling flute, bowed sattar from Xinjiang, Tibetan cymbals, Peruvian charango, and 12-string guitar. Most of these instruments have never been played together before.
