Mendelssohn, Felix - Symphony No. 4 (Italian) - Savall, Jordi

After Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert, Jordi Savall continues his journey into the 19th century with Felix Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony. This is the first time he has recorded the composer's work.

He presents two versions of the work: the one that was performed at its world premiere in 1833 and the one that was revised in 1834. The most notable changes are found in the last three movements of the work.

Comparing the two scores and performing them on period instruments brings us closer than ever to Mendelssohn's work and its original intent.

Thanks to Jordi Savall's insightful conducting, there is still much to discover in Mendelssohn's most famous symphony.
