Karg-Elert, Sigfrid - Music for Piano and Organ - Lehtola, Jan

As domestic music grew in popularity in the 19th century, it first brought the piano and then often the harmonium into the living rooms of the wealthy throughout the Western world. Composers naturally responded with original works and arrangements: Sibelius's Andante cantabile was written after a visit to relatives who had both instruments in their salon; Karg-Elert, on the other hand, was one of the world's most notable virtuosos of the harmonium and organ and composed with his concert audiences in mind. This recording brings to life long-forgotten melodies that would once have been very familiar.
