John Scofield Trio - Uncle John?s Band (2CD)

Named after the Grateful Dead song on this inspiring double album, Uncle John's Band features master guitarist John Scofield at his most free-spirited. The extensive repertoire brings together the trio, which includes Vicente Archer and Bill Stewart, with material ranging from Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man" to Neil Young's "Old Man," Leonard Bernstein's "Somewhere" to Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool classic "Budoo." And jazz standards such as "Stairway to the Stars" and "Ray's Idea" meet seven original songs by Scofield, which vary in style from swing to funk to folk. The common thread running through the program is the trio's tremendous improvisational spirit. "I feel like we can go anywhere," says John Scofield about the band's versatility. Uncle John's Band was recorded at Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck, New York, in August 2022.
