Jakob Bro / Joe Lovano - Once Around The Room - A Tribute To Paul Motian

On the album Once Around The Room, ECM artists and key jazz musicians from different generations join forces in a small ensemble to celebrate the musical legacy of drumming icon Paul Motian in spectacular fashion. Joe Lovano and Jakob Bro lead the seven-piece group with fiery, original compositions that evoke the idioms and idiosyncrasies Motian brought to the drums during his six influential decades. Lovano and Motian had been close colleagues for years, and their most notable collaboration was the groundbreaking trio with Bill Frisell – the ensemble released three albums on ECM. Jakob Bro, meanwhile, made his ECM debut on Paul's album Garden of Eden (2006). On Once Around The Room, Joe and Jakob's compositions appear alongside collective improvisation and Motian's own "Drum Music." The works are seamlessly combined and developed by a skilled musical collective that includes Larry Grenadier, Thomas Morgan, and Anders Christensen on bass, and Joey Baron and Jorge Rossy on drums.
