Norwegian composer SVEIN HUNDSNES has composed a considerable number of works, ranging from concertos to pieces for young musicians. His piano music is wide-ranging in style and occupies a significant place in his output. Piano Sonata No. 2 illustrates his approach of working from small core themes, creating a series of connections between each living part. Syncopated rhythms enliven Vinterdanser ("Winter Dances") – a series of round dances; while the magical awakening of spinning torches, lullabies, and clouds of illuminated water droplets comes to life in Nuances de Lumière ("Shades of Light"). Finnish pianist Laura Mikkola continues her critically acclaimed discovery in this second volume of Hundsnes' piano works.
