La Traviata is not only one of Giuseppe Verdi's best-known works, but also one of the most popular operas of all time. Based on Alexandre Dumas (fils)' novel and play La Dame aux camélias, this tragic story of Violetta, a terminally ill courtesan who falls in love with a young gentleman named Alfredo Germont, has moved audiences to tears for over 150 years. This magnificent new production of Verdi's masterpiece is directed by Argentine Hugo de Ana, a regular guest at the world's most prestigious opera houses and renowned for his spectacular sets and unique use of lighting. The huge stage of the Verona Arena is an ideal challenge for him. Ermonela Jaho, an intense and dramatic Violetta, and Francesco Demuro, an elegant Alfredo, both make their debut at the Arena. Vladimir Stoyanov, who plays the determined but refined Germont, completes the magnificent trio of protagonists under the baton of the esteemed conductor Julian Kovatchev.
