David Gilmour's album "Luck and Strange" was recorded over five months in Brighton and London, and is Gilmour's first album of new material in nine years. The album was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman, and most of the lyrics were written by Polly Samson, Gilmour's co-writer for the past thirty years. The album features eight new songs and a beautiful reinterpretation of The Montgolfier Brothers' song "Between Two Points," with Romany Gilmour providing backing vocals throughout the album and also playing the harp.
The album features Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, and Steve DiStanislao on drums, and Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards. Will Gardner was responsible for the string and choir arrangements. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, and the album was recorded in 2007 during a "Barn Jam" concert held at David's home. The album cover was photographed and designed by renowned artist Anton Corbijn and was inspired by the lyrics written by Charlie Gilmour for the last song on the album, "Scattered."
