In 1884, Antonín Dvorak made his first concert tour to England. This became the highlight of his career, bringing him international recognition and financial security. It was a time of personal and professional happiness. However, it is interesting to note that the Seventh Symphony does not in any way consistently reflect a pastoral, idyllic mood. On the contrary, the music often has a dramatic and sombre effect. It is possible that Dvorak was adapting to the blows of fate: he had lost his mother and three children. Four years after the premiere of the Seventh Symphony, Dvorak began work on his Eighth Symphony, which differed significantly from it. In his Seventh Symphony, he still followed Beethoven's classical symphonic form, but here he placed melody before form. It runs through the work, creating the impression of a "series of atmospheric poetic images."
