Victor Julien-Laferrière, winner of the first Queen Elisabeth International Cello Competition in Belgium in 2017, performs two French works for cello and orchestra: Pascal Dusapin's Outscape: "The name itself conveys the musical project (...), a word rich in meaning, referring to many meanings from the most common to the most philosophical. 'Outscape' is a way or an opportunity to escape, to find your own path. I liked this word because it is essentially a summary of the history of my work." Alongside this work, composed in 2015 and recorded here in its world premiere (conducted by Kristiina Poska), French cellist David Robertson, this time conducting the Orchestre National de France, celebrates Henri Dutilleux (who died just 10 years ago, on May 22, 2013) with their famous concert, whose title is taken from Baudelaire's poem La Chevelure from Les Fleurs du mal: "The whole distant world, absent, almost lost"...
