Conducted by Libor Pešek, Dvo?ák: Symphonies 1-9 & Orchestral Works is a highly acclaimed set that includes all nine symphonies by Antonín Dvo?ák, as well as a selection of his major orchestral works. Pešek recorded these works with two orchestras close to him, the Czech Philharmonic and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Released in 2016 (Warner Classics/Erato)
This is a 7-CD box set containing remastered versions of the recordings. It is packaged in a space-saving slipcase.
In addition to the symphonies, the collection includes the following orchestral works:
The Wild Dove.
Carnival, Othello, In Nature's Realm and My Home.
Czech Suite and American Suite.
Scherzo capriccioso.
Critics and listeners consider Pešek's interpretations to be highly "idiomatic", i.e. they capture the characteristics of Czech music, such as rustic sound and lyricism. The Czech Philharmonic performances in particular (Symphonies 2, 4, 5 and 6) have been praised for their authenticity, while the Liverpool recordings (Symphonies 1, 3, 7, 8 and 9) offer a brighter and more intense take.
