Beethoven, Ludwig van - Piano Concertos Nos. 5 "Emperor" & 0 - Giltburg, Boris

These works share the key of E-flat major, but represent two very different stages in the composer's life. Piano Concerto No. 0, WoO 4, written when Beethoven was 13 years old, is one of his earliest works. As the orchestral score has been lost, this surviving version for solo piano, written in Beethoven's own hand, includes the tutti sections arranged for piano. The radiant "Emperor" Concerto presents the 38-year-old Beethoven at the height of his creative powers and remains a shining example of his spirit in overcoming life's adversities.
