Oscar Peterson was probably the greatest and definitely the most famous pianist in jazz history. Although his solo and small ensemble work is well known, his career as a bandleader is often overlooked. He played with the royalty of jazz and recorded sessions with Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Lester Young, Benny Carter, Roy Eldridge, and many others. This set contains the best examples of his session work, emphasizing recordings in which his piano is prominently featured. It includes rare recordings from Philharmonic Jazz and studio sessions, often produced by his mentor and manager Norman Granz, and the set presents the cream of American jazz from the 1950s.
