The Elegance series is a collection of breathtaking ballet performances from internationally renowned companies, featuring our beloved dance stars. The series presents productions by today's greatest choreographers and, of course, the legacy of the legendary Marius Petipa. In 1996, the Dutch National Ballet performed its own version of the famous fairy tale ballet for the first time. It is a magical production that has captured the hearts of more than 250,000 people to date. Choreographers Toer van Schayk and Wayne Eagling created The Nutcracker for today's children and adults. It is more dynamic and exciting than usual, and not so sweet. They also decided to give the story a Dutch twist by adding skaters to the canals and transforming the living room into a snowy forest. Unlike the original story, Eagling and Van Schayk's (who also designed the delightful sets and costumes) production is not set on Christmas Eve in a German town, but during the celebrations of St. Nicholas in Amsterdam around 1810.
