Sibelius, Jean - Kuolema / King Christian - Turku Philharmonic Orchestra

Jean Sibelius was the most important figure in the formation of Finland's musical identity.

In addition to his famous symphonies and tone poems, he was also prolific in other genres, such as theater music.

King Christian II and Death secured Sibelius's reputation throughout

Europe. The latter included, among other things, a haunting melody (movement 2), which

later became Valse triste. Two songs from Loppiainen create a contrast to the specter of death and more comical moods, and this effect can also be heard in one of Sibelius's least performed orchestral works, the overture in A minor.
