Viktoria Mullova and Alasdair Beatson present their first release with Signum Classics. Performed on period fortepiano and strings, the works cover the last decade of Schubert's life. Beginning with the A major sonata from 1817, its lyrical and wistful opening gives way to Viennese joy and exuberance. The album concludes with the 1826 Rondo in B minor, which is exciting in its heroic journey through numerous themes, with twists and turns that are almost competitive between the two instruments. At the heart of the album is the 1827 C major fantasy – indescribably inspiring, enchantingly beautiful music, a display of colors and textures, an unpredictable and incomparable dreamlike vision from another world. Viktoria Mullova is internationally renowned as an exceptionally versatile and musically honest violinist. Her curiosity spans the broad spectrum of musical development from Baroque and Classical music to the latest influences in the world of fusion and experimental music. Scottish pianist Alasdair Beatson works extensively as a soloist and chamber musician. Known as a sincere musician and bold programmer, Beatson strives to perform a wider repertoire and is particularly interested in Beethoven, Schumann, and Schubert, among others.
