Violinist Pekka Kuusisto and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra present the album First Light, the first fruit of Kuusisto's career as artistic director. The album features two notable New York composers in a Nordic light. The album features the world premiere of Nico Muhly's Shrink (concerto for violin and strings), a unique version of Philip Glass's The Orchard recorded remotely by Kuusisto and Muhly, and Kuusisto's new string orchestra arrangement of Glass's string quartet Mishima No. 3. Violinist, conductor, and composer Pekka Kuusisto is known for his artistic freedom and ability to lead ensembles. Since its founding in 1977, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra has established itself as one of the leading chamber orchestras in international classical music. Nico Muhly is one of the most performed composers of his generation and appears as a pianist on this album. Kuusisto, NCO, and Muhly are all making their PENTATONE debut.
