Fagerlund, Sebastian - Darkness in Light (SACD) - Kuusisto, Pekka (violin)

Sebastian Fagerlund's previous orchestral recordings were described in BBC Music Magazine as "offering boundless technical resources and remarkable imagination." These qualities, along with his receptiveness to different musical traditions, are shared by Fagerlund and Pekka Kuusisto, to whom the violin concerto Darkness in Light is dedicated. The title of the work is a subtle reference to a quote from Haruki Murakami's short story Firefly: "Death is not the opposite of life, but part of it." The album concludes with the orchestral work Ignite, composed and performed here by the Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its chief conductor Hannu Lintu.
