Copland's iconic Third Symphony, which premiered in 1946, was described by the composer as "a wartime work—or more precisely, an end-of-war work—intended to reflect the euphoric spirit of the country at that time." This recording features the fourth movement, which begins by borrowing one of Copland's most famous works, Fanfare for the Common Man, in its original, uncut form.
